Andrea Gio Cope - Collage Artist

Some people are born knowing their mission in life. Their every step is directed towards achieving that goal. Others get to travel many paths before clarity asserts itself. From New York to Los Angeles to Portland, from commercial producer to real estate developer, wife, mother and philanthropist, Andrea Gio Cope's road to artistic realization has been a decades-long accretion of skills, values, and experiences that has reached its full flowering in her whimsically beautiful, sensual and haunting mixed media collage pieces.

From the 80's on, the Gio Cope household has been a hotbed of creativity. Filmmaker/photographer/painter husband Gil claimed the early headlines, while daughter Zoe blossomed into a multi-threat artist and brand ambassador. Andrea broke onto the scene as a bedazzler of denim jackets for babies and toddlers. Currently mingling materials and textures from nature, distressed photographs, rock and roll ephemera and everyday objects, her tongue-in-cheek collage creations have received international acclaim.

Andrea next turned to journals, giving them the full AGC treatment, sewing their covers with her sense of style, color, and mood. From there it was a natural jump to mixed media collages, which have been featured in shows since 2023. Each piece is a singular design, employing elements as diverse as handwritten documents from the 1800's advertising snippets from the 1900's, hand dyed fabrics, bits of string, vintage hardware, and portions of her personal paintings. Truly stunning pieces in every series. What will be next we can only imagine. But we can be assured that whatever medium Andrea Gio Cope embraces will encompass a vision that is uniquely hers.
